Our last day Athens found us at the National Historical Museum. The museum is housed in the neo-classical Old Parliament Building and illustrated the historical evolution of the Greek nation from the Fall of Constantinople in 1453 to WW2.

Wednesday was the Parthenon and Acropolis site. Gorgeous weather and so amazing to be in the presence of such antiquity.

Monday had us back at Monastiraki square wandering around the area and gazing up at the Parthenon.  John had souvlaki and I had deep fried feta cheese wrapped in phylo pastry then drenched in honey and toasted sesame seeds. It tasted like nothing you can imagine.

 

Fun to see oranges growing everywhere.

At the Syntagma square, we watched the changing of the Evzones guards in front of Hellenic Parliament. Tons of people so I only got close photos of them leaving the area. Very interesting way of marching and very distinctive uniforms.

The afternoon was spent visiting the beach area.

We arrived in Greece on the 19th and settled into the nicest Airbnb apartment we have experienced in our travels. View of our apartment exterior which is typical for most in the city.

On our Hop on Hop Off bus the next day we were somewhat overwhelmed by the graffiti in the city. It seems as though every possible surface has been defaced,  giving the city a gritty appearance.

 

The metro is modern, bright and clean, exhibiting historical ruins in many areas.
